NASCAR 3D
Today was the day to view the IMAX experience.

And well worth the wait it was too. Great insight NASCAR behind the scenes and pretty good 3d effects though in some cases perhaps not necessary to the documentary. Then again the 3D aspect may have attracted interest from those who would not go anywhere near a race circuit.

The inside car views gave a good impression of how little visibility the drivers have - admittedly the camera was further back than the drivers head, restricting the view still further but still its like driving with blinkers on. Helps emphasise the importance of the spotters.

Pretty good turnout at IMAX plenty of families but a good mix of ages and sex. So well done Rockingham and IMAX Birmingham for bringing this to this side of the pond.

Old news really but as it's just 4 weeks away thought I'd better get around to thinking about getting some tickets from the IMAX Cinema. And not just because there's a discount for early booking! NASCAR 3D
It seems it'll be quite a spectacular event. Should be worth the cash.

Last August we spent a wet and windy day at Legoland where the had a 4D film of lego racers and that was mind blowing. the 3d visual effects were quite oustanding and I'd imagine on the big IMAX screen you'll just get blown away.

Just to show willing I've put a couple of links on the site as well.

Continuing on the NASCAR theme, caught some of the replay of the Daytona Busch race. Great sight to see a group of 10/12 cars nose to tail 2 abreast (sometimes 3) and running at such high speed. Tremendous respect to their skills.

So goes the call of the spotter as the start of the NASCAR season gets under way.
Pass
As someone who purports an interest in oval racing it dawned on me that while I'm dilly dallying with the gallery I've not said much on the subject of motor sport. Well it is the off-season is it not and its difficult to say much when you're not in touch. I've removed the NASCAR news headlines from my home page and set up a separate NASCAR page with an RSS feed from Fox sport. The thinking behind this is that they have the TV coverage & they'll want to keep on top of things. Spoilt for choice for NASCAR feeds so not sure whether I've gone for the best one. To complement this there the Crash dot net SCSA (Stock Car Speed Association) RSS feed which may be the only source for the UK style large oval racing. I've not seen any for feed for BriSCA.

On the links section here I've put in a few blogs with a NASCAR theme to pick up views from the the US. I'll add 'official' sites shortly and increase the UK Oval reference links. First, though the Australian GP is just a fortnight away so I'll do a similar exercise for F1 as I do watch it and it'll be interesting to see what I can find in the way of team blogs for the inside info. Probably very little as they DO like their secrets. It'll also save me clogging up my favourites.

Having only managed to catch the last 2 laps of the Busch race at Daytona can't really say anything about it other than well done to Tony Steward on his victory after overcoming an off track excursion. How on earth do you get back on that banking off the grass without grounding the car??
